Overview

Drift, fish and unwind on our multi-day camp trip down the Wild and Scenic Lower Deschutes River canyon outside of Bend, Oregon. We’ll float from Trout Creek Campground to Harpham Flat, an ideal section for chasing native “Redside” rainbow trout and seasonal steelhead. Covering roughly 35 miles in total, each day offers a new scenic stretch of the river to explore before arriving at fully-catered riverside camp. We’ll travel by drift boat, with opportunities to wade and fish along the way.

What to expect

We provide all the gear necessary for a comfortable riverside camp with the exception of personal sleeping bags and pillows. Spacious tents (double occupancy), quality cots and sleeping pads will be waiting for you when we float into camp. We bring a full riverside kitchen and dining setup to provide a restful experience.

Camping

What to bring

There is a fair amount of documentation necessary to be in compliance while fishing the Lower Deschutes River. Due to its designation as a Wild and Scenic River system, all anglers must have the following:

You will need to acquire an Oregon fishing license through the My ODFW website or app or from select brick and mortar shops. Opt for a single-day, three day, or annual license depending on your preference and trip length.

Lower Deschutes River Boaters Passes are required for this section of river. We will obtain these permits on your behalf.

Warm Springs Tribal Permits are applicable for our single day Lower Deschutes float trips as well as certain multi-day trips. This permit affords access to an 7 mile section of the Lower Deschutes River that runs through Warm Springs Tribal land. We can advise upon booking if this permit is recommended for your trip and will secure a tribal permit for you.

Fishing license and permits

In typical high desert fashion, the weather can fluctuate between chilly mornings and hot afternoons. We recommend bringing an extra jacket and dressing in layers to stay comfortable. We recommend a hat, polarized sunglasses, sunscreen and warm thick socks to wear with your waders. Please bring your own sleeping bag and pillow and any personal items you’d like to have at camp. We provide a large, waterproof bag to protect all your overnight gear.

Weather

See below for this week’s forecast. For future conditions, visit weather.com.

Due to special regulation on the Lower Deschutes River, no fishing is allowed from the boat. Expect several stops throughout the day to immerse yourself in the Deschutes angling experience. Your guides work hard to put you in the most productive and wadeable runs on the river. Be prepared to wade and negotiate slippery, uneven terrain. While we are happy to outfit you with any necessary gear, feel free to bring your own waders, wading staff, boots and fly rods if you prefer.
