Fishing gear
Our guide team works hard to provide the most user friendly experience possible. All required fly fishing gear including fly rods, flies, waders and wading boots can be provided. While the necessary gear is available, we encourage you to bring your own if you prefer to use it. We recommend studded felt wading boots, 5 and 6 weight rods in 9’ to 10’ lengths and fly lines designed to throw big dry flies and weighted nymphs. We love to discuss gear and are happy to answer any questions regarding what to bring for the trip.

Weather
There is a fair amount of documentation necessary to be in compliance while fishing the Lower Deschutes River. Due to its designation as a Wild and Scenic River system, all anglers must have the following:
You will need to acquire an Oregon fishing license through the My ODFW website or app or from select brick and mortar shops. Opt for a single-day, three day, or annual license depending on your preference and trip length.
Lower Deschutes River Boaters Passes are required for this section of river. We will obtain these permits on your behalf.
Warm Springs Tribal Permits are applicable for our single day Lower Deschutes float trips as well as certain multi-day trips. This permit affords access to an 7 mile section of the Lower Deschutes River that runs through Warm Springs Tribal land. We can advise upon booking if this permit is recommended for your trip and will secure a tribal permit for you.
In typical high desert fashion, the weather can fluctuate between chilly mornings and hot afternoons. We recommend bringing an extra jacket and dressing in layers for early in the day. A hat, polarized sunglasses, sunscreen and warm thick socks to wear with your waders are all recommended. In the heat of the summer some anglers prefer to ‘wet wade’ without waders. Neoprene wading socks are a nice thing to have if you prefer this option. If you have studded felt wading boots this is the place to put them to the test as the Deschutes is a place full of premium trout habitat aka every size and shape of slippery rock.
